According to recent reports, new-car sales in this country are slowly climbing out of the toilet. We love you, Driving America, so we have some advice: Stop it ... We know what you're thinking: The American economy is barely alive. Detroit is busily attempting to reverse decades of bad choices. Speed has never been cheaper, interest rates are still in the gutter, and everyone and their brother — hello, Black Friday — wants you to buy, buy, buy. It looks like an easy call ... We're here to
I would like to hear from members who are concerned about IMS failure in 986 and 996 Porsche cars. I have a 986 S that was built on January 1st 2001, the car has almost 25,000 miles that are mostly Rally and hard counrty road type driving. (I drive a M-3 bmw the rest of the time) I have been using the recommended 0-40 Mobil One which I plan on changing twice a year ... The IMS failures I have seen locally have occured in cars that are newer, and some have had less miles, so I'm considering the
I attended Potomac Chapter's High Performance Driving Clinic ... Its not quite an HPDE, but geared toward new comers to track events ... However, there were very few people in which this was their first event, most had few events under their belt ... There were a good mix of Porsches, so overall it was a worthwhile event; there were a track-prep'd 914, 996 Turbo S, 997 and 997S, 930s, 964T, 993C2 and T, 944s, etc ... The day started with some fog and drizzle and turned into moderate rain late
Next Thursday is the big day that I should be taking delivery of my very first Porsche. It has been a long wait since Tom Cruise was chased by Guido the Killer Pimp in Risky Business that I have lusted after a Porsche (then the 928, but the 911 has become the object of my desire since the 996 came out) ... I was glad to read the tech bulletin here that states that the cars are limited to a max of 20 mph during shipping to avoid abuse by transport workers ...
This latest entry had me waste the better part of yesterday and this AM. The story is, my driver's side external door lock is broken (the part is on order, with a six week lead time), and I had been traveling for more than a week ... So, come home, and the car is in "power down" mode such that you can't unlock the car with just the fob ... Well, that's a problem! ... I decided that the best bet was to hopefully unlock the front trunk, set off the alarm, then disconnect and reconnect the battery,
German tuning firm Cargraphic recently revealed its specially designed Airlift system for the 996 and 997 Porsche 911 models, which essentially allows drivers to lower and raise the front of their cars to avoid obstacles on the road. Now, the company has given rally legend and regular Porsche test driver Walter Röhrl one of its Porsche 997 Turbo GT models to fling around a track and help finetune its latest suspension system. The Airlift system operates at the front suspension through a wireless
This is Down On The Street Bonus Edition, where we check out interesting street-parked cars located in places other than the Island That Rust Forgot. Tomsk has photographed a staggering quantity of DOTSBE-worthy machinery ... And now we're going to look at a pair of Benzes, a VW, and a couple of Porsches. Tomsk: ... Porsche 911: If there's anything that The OC taught the rest of the world (aside from the fact that Mischa Barton is foxier than all get-out), it's that coastal Orange County has
2008 was a record year for Audi, but unlike the not-so-Big Three, they were positive records. Audi produced more vehicles and more profits than ever before. So much so, they're paying employees $6,775 bonuses ... The Audi Group produced 1,003,469 vehicles for the 2008 calendar year, 4.1% more than 2007. Total profits after tax was $3.5 Billion, an increase of 30.4 percent ... While sales were down 6.1% in the US (to 87,760 vehicles) numbers were up in Audi's biggest market, China, by 17%
